CHARLOTTESVILLE – Three incoming members of the Virginia rowing program, freshmen Chandler Lally and Lizzy Youngling, as well as transfer Catherine Multari, competed at the 2011 Junior World Rowing Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain. The competition took place on what will be the course for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Lally (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) stroked the United States’ four to a gold medal. She is a three-time member of the US Junior National Team and adds the gold medal to a silver in 2010.
Youngling (Westport, Conn.) finished fourth with the United States’ quad, which was the highest-ever finish for the US in that event at Junior Worlds. This was Youngling’s second appearance with the US Junior National Team, as she rowed in the sixth-place pair at the 2010 championships.
Rowing for Canada’s four, Multari (Ontario, Canada) finished sixth. Multari will join the Cavaliers after previously attending the University of Western Ontario.
