Barrington, RI – Former Virginia standout Calle Nielson was eliminated during today’s first round of match play at the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship taking place at the Rhode Island Country Club.

Nielson fell to Annie Park in 24 holes. Nielson took the early lead on the third hole and was 2-up through seven holes before Park battled back to even the match by the 10th hole. Nielson then won three consecutive holes to go to 3-up through 13 and held that advantage until the 15th hole. Park won the final three holes of the match to get back to all square and force the extra six holes of play.
