GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Simone Asque (Chicago, Ill.) has been selected to the 2011 Preseason All-ACC Team and the Virginia volleyball team has been picked to finish ninth in the annual Atlantic Coast Conference preseason poll, the league announced Tuesday (Aug. 23).

Asque is making her third-consecutive appearance on the conference’s preseason team. The outside hitter finished the 2010 season ranked third in the ACC with 3.77 kills per set and second with an average of 0.32 aces per set. Her season total of 419 kills pushed her career total to 1,038, making her the 15th Cavalier to reach 1,000 career kills. She was an All-ACC selection in 2009 and an ACC All-Freshman Team member in 2008.

Virginia picked up 45 points in the preseason poll. Duke was predicted to win the league with 117 points and nine first-place votes, followed by Florida State (110 points, three first-place votes), North Carolina (98 points), Miami (96 points) and Georgia Tech (73 points).

Rounding out the poll were Virginia Tech (72 points), Clemson (64 points), Maryland (47 points), the Cavaliers, Wake Forest (36 points), NC State (22 points) and Boston College (12 points).

Virginia opens its season with the Marriott Cavalier Classic – taking on Western Michigan (Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.), USC Upstate (Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m.) and Western Carolina (Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.)

Volleyball season tickets are now on sale. All tickets for the 2011 season are general admission in the bleachers and standing room areas of Memorial Gymnasium. Please note that while entry is guaranteed for all ticketed patrons, the purchase of a season ticket also guarantees a seat in a reserved general admission seating area. All other tickets and admissions are general admission and do not guarantee a seat in the bleachers.

In-person sales can be made at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Telephone purchases can be made by calling 1-800-542-UVA1 (8821) or locally at 434-924-UVA1 (8821).

Season tickets for adults are $30, while youth, senior and faculty/staff season tickets are $20. For a single match, general admission tickets are $5 but do not guarantee a seat in the bleachers. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Discounted tickets for active faculty/staff members are limited to two per match.
