CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia volleyball team evened its record at 1-1 on the season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-21) victory over USC Upstate (1-1) Saturday (Aug. 27) at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers will face Western Carolina at 7 p.m. Saturday in the tournament’s final match.

Virginia was led by senior outside hitter Simone Asque’s (Chicago, Ill.) 15 kills on offense. She hit at a .324 clip and added eight digs and four aces.

Freshman Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.), making her first-career start, added eight kills, 12 digs and three aces. Junior Jessica O’Shoney (Austin, Texas) also had eight kills in addition to four digs and two blocks.

Junior captain Beth Wildermuth (San Clemente, Calif.) dished out 31 assists and Rachel Clark (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the team in digs with 15.

The Cavaliers out-hit USC Upstate, .323 to -.061 in set one and .146 to .116 in set two. Despite being out-hit .300 to .265 in game three, UVa clinched the match with a victory.

Mindy Quimby and Morgan Thomas led USC Upstate with nine kills apiece.

In the first match of the day, Western Michigan remained undefeated at the Marriott Cavalier Classic with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-11) victory over Western Carolina (0-2).

The Marriott Cavalier Classic continues this afternoon with Western Michigan vs. USC Upstate (5 p.m.) and UVa vs. Western Carolina (7 p.m.)

Volleyball season tickets are now on sale. All tickets for the 2011 season are general admission in the bleachers and standing room areas of Memorial Gymnasium. Please note that while entry is guaranteed for all ticketed patrons, the purchase of a season ticket also guarantees a seat in a reserved general admission seating area. All other tickets and admissions are general admission and do not guarantee a seat in the bleachers.

In-person sales can be made at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Telephone purchases can be made by calling 1-800-542-UVA1 (8821) or locally at 434-924-UVA1 (8821).

Season tickets for adults are $30, while youth, senior and faculty/staff season tickets are $20. For a single match, general admission tickets are $5 but do not guarantee a seat in the bleachers. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Discounted tickets for active faculty/staff members are limited to two per match.
