Members of the Virginia women’s basketball program have been checking in this fall with VirginiaSports.com to give a first-hand update on the team. In this installment, assistant coach Kim McNeill blogs on Sept. 7, 2011.

Wow … what an exciting four months I’ve had. From making the big move to UVa, planning a wedding, selling a house and trying to find a place to live … my life has been pretty crazy. But what a great opportunity for me to be able to come back to the state of Virginia (where I’m from) and be able to help Joanne make UVa into a powerhouse! Being able to do what I love and start my family is a blessing for me. It’s an honor for me to be able to represent this incredible University because if you’re from Virginia, we all know that UVa is the place you want to get your education from!

Things have finally started to settle down but we are still crazy busy. These great young ladies have helped to make our lives a lot easier. I’m not old enough to be their mom, but I look at all of them as if they are my little sisters. I think they are starting to realize that we are always here for them and that our doors are always open. They have adjusted and are starting to buy into what we are asking of them. Not once have I ever felt resistance from them. They are starting to make our offices their second home (which I love). I’ve had to put a couple of them out at times so that I can get some work done 🙂 If you know anything about me, you know that I am a relationship person and I love spending time with the girls.

We are entering our third week of workouts and already I’ve seen unbelievable improvement. We are throwing a lot of new stuff at them but they are soaking it up and we are having lots of fun with it.

Next week we hit the recruiting trail and I can’t tell you how excited I am to walk into high schools with my UVa shirt on … Go Hoos!
