Women's Tennis Has Six Players in Preseason Rankings

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Six members of the Virginia women’s tennis team earned preseason rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Five Cavaliers were ranked in singles and three teams were ranked in doubles, highlighted by two top-10 doubles teams.
Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.), who became Virginia’s first All-American last season, opens the year with a career-high No. 18 singles ranking. Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) also starts the year with a career-high ranking of No. 36. Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) begin the season at No. 72 and No. 74 respectively. Xi Li (Kunming, China), who didn’t complete last season for the Cavaliers, is No. 5 in the freshman/newcomer rankings.
Virginia had two doubles teams ranked in the preseason top 10, both establishing new career highs. The team of Fraser/Tomljanovic is No. 8 and the team of Hardenbergh/Vierra is No. 9. Both duos competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship last year. The team of Xi Li and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) are No. 48 in the rankings.
The Cavaliers open the fall season Sept. 16-18 when they host the UVa Fall Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center. Play begins at 9 a.m. each day and admission is free.
