Charlottesville, VA – The 21st-ranked Virginia men’s golf team opens its 2011-12 season Monday at the VCU Shootout taking place at the par 72, 6,955-yard Hermitage Country Club. The Cavaliers will tee off at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start while teamed with the host Rams and UNC Wilmington, the 2010 tournament champion.

The field for the tournament includes VCU, Charlotte, East Carolina, Iowa State
James Madison, Maryland, North Carolina, Richmond, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Wichita State.
The tournament features 36 holes of play Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.

Virginia’s lineup includes seniors Ben Kohles and Bruce Woodall, junior Mac McLaughlin, sophomore Ben Rusch and freshman Denny McCarthy. Freshman Ji Soo Park and junior Cory Siegfried will compete as individuals.

Last year Kohles picked up ACC player of the year honors for the second straight season after leading UVa in stroke average at 71.92.
