CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Bethlehem, Pa., Friday to compete in the Paul Short Invitational. The men’s 8K race will start at 11 a.m., while the women’s 6K race will take place at 11:45 a.m.

The UVa women are ranked No. 16 in the nation by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while the men are currently 19th. The men are ranked second in the Southeast region by the USTFCCCA and the women are third behind ACC rivals Duke and North Carolina.

“I think our team chemistry is better than ever and we’re focused,” director of track and field/cross country Jason Vigilante said, “but it’s early in the season, so this meet is a step amongst many and we can use it as a building block to become where we want to be at the end of the season.”

Friday’s meet will see eight nationally ranked men’s teams and three teams ranked in the women’s national top-five.

At the season-opening Lou Onesty Open, the Cavalier women earned a perfect score of 15, led by senior Anna Corrigan, who was first across the line in a 5K time of 18:04.50. The men, who finished second with 72 points, were led by junior David Wilson in an 8K time of 26:20.60.

After Friday’s action, the Cavaliers will return home for the Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14.
