Charlottesville, VA – The fifth-ranked Virginia women’s golf team plays its second tournament of the season when it travels to Chapel Hill for the 36th annual Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 7-9 at UNC’s Finley Golf Course. On Friday and Saturday, golfers will tee off at 8:51 a.m. from both the first and 10th tees on the par 72, 6,285-yard course. There will be a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday for the final round.

Of 18 teams slated to compete, eight are in the top 25 according to the latest Golf Week poll. The host Tar Heels are ranked sixth while Auburn is No. 2, LSU is No. 8, Alabama is No. 10, Duke is No. 11, Georgia is No. 18 and South Carolina is No. 24. Also competing are: Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Louisville, Michigan State, NC State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulane and Wake Forest.

Virginia is paired with Chattanooga and Wake Forest in the opening round and will start on the first hole at 8:51 a.m. The Cavalier lineup includes Lauren Greenlief, Elizabeth Brightwell, Nicole Agnello, Portland Rosen and Brittany Altomare. Melissa Edmonson will compete as a non-scoring individual in her collegiate debut after redshirting last season.

The Cavaliers opened the season Sept. 13-15 at the Mason Rudolph/Fall Preview, finishing fourth in the strong 18-team field. Altomare led the Cavaliers with a third-place showing, shooting 2-under 214. She is ranked fourth in this week’s Golfweek individual standings.
