Chapel Hill, NC – The second-ranked Virginia women’s golf team could not make up any ground during the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational and finished in a tie for 12th place in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 7-over 295 during Sunday’s final round for a three-day total of 20-over 884. It was the team’s second tournament of the season.

LSU, ranked ninth, took the team title at 8-under 856, four shots ahead of eighth-ranked Alabama. Auburn’s Marta Sanz was the medalist at 9-under 207.

UVa’s top finishers were junior Brittany Altomare and Nicole Agnello. They tied for 19th at 2-over 218. Both players shot 1-over 73 during the final round. Sophomore Portland Rosen was 55th at 225 including a final round score of 74.

Sophomore Elizabeth Brightwell, playing in just her fourth tournament, posted her best collegiate score, shooting 10-over 226 to finish 64th. She carded a 75 during Sunday’s play. Senior Lauren Greenlief was 81st at 231. She shot 79 during the final round.

Redshirt freshman Melissa Edmondson, playing as an individual competitor, was 92nd in her first college tournament. She finished at 241 including an 80 on Sunday.

Virginia returns to play this weekend at the Stanford Intercollegiate that will take place Oct. 14-16 at the Stanford Golf Course.
