Virginia Women's Lacrosse Announces 2012 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia head women’s lacrosse coach Julie Myers announced her team’s schedule for the 2012 season on Wednesday (Nov. 2). The schedule features at least eight home games and contests against eight opponents that played in the 2011 NCAA Championship.

“Our schedule is consistent from one year to the next in that we try to face the best college teams in the country,” Myers said. “It’s an exciting schedule and we’re going to have to work hard. We should be in a position to win games and challenge for championships down the stretch.”

The Cavaliers begin with three-consecutive home games at Klöckner Stadium against Loyola (Md.) on Feb. 18, in-state foe Richmond on Feb. 22 and Syracuse on Feb. 26. The Spiders are coached by Stephy Samaras Mantziaras, a two-time All-American at Virginia as a player.

The Cavaliers’ first Atlantic Coast Conference match-up comes on the road at NCAA runner-up Maryland on March 2, followed by a March 4 contest at Penn State. The ACC home opener is vs. North Carolina on March 10.

The non-conference schedule continues at William & Mary (March 14), at Princeton (March 17) and vs. James Madison (March 21).

A road trip to Duke (March 24) precedes the final three-game homestand vs. Old Dominion (March 28), Boston College (March 31) and Harvard (April 2).

The Cavaliers play road games at Virginia Tech on April 7 and John Hopkins on April 11, with the contest vs. Hopkins representing the programs’ first meeting since the 2007 season.

The 2012 ACC Tournament will be played April 19-22 in Durham, N.C.

A game at Northwestern (April 28), the 2011 NCAA Champion, concludes the regular-season for the Cavaliers.
