CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer announced updates to the Cavaliers’ 2012 track and field schedule Wednesday (Jan. 18.).

“There are a few changes to the schedule that will allow us to have a less divided team at meets,” Fetzer said. “In addition, we have added two in-state meets with the Liberty Quad and the Colonial Relays that will allow our local fans an opportunity to see us compete.”

The ‘Hoos begin the 2012 campaign this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 20-21) at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., before competing at the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa., on Jan. 27-28.

An added indoor meet to the schedule is the Liberty Quad in Lynchburg, Va., on Friday, Feb. 10. The Wahoos will compete at the Virginia Tech Challenge Feb. 17-18 for their final tune-up before the ACC Indoor Championships, Feb. 23-25, held in Boston.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place in Nampa, Idaho, on March 9-10.

The 2012 outdoor season gets underway in Charlottesville, as the Cavaliers will debut their brand new track and field facility with the UVa Team Swashbuckle on March 24.

Virginia has added the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., on April 6-7, which will be the last large meet before the ACC Outdoor Championships in Charlottesville on April 19-21.

The ‘Hoos will host the Virginia Challenge on May 12 as their final meet before the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in Jacksonville, Fla., May 24-26.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9.
