UVa Men's Golfers Share Lead at Palmetto Intercollegiate

Aiken, SC – The Virginia men’s golf team opened its spring season in stellar fashion by sharing the lead after the first 36 holes of play at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate taking place in Aiken, S.C. The Cavaliers and South Carolina stand atop the 18-team field at 10-over 570. Clemson is in third place at 571 while East Carolina is fourth at 575 and two-time defending NCAA Champion Augusta State is fifth at 581.
UVa shot 12-over 292 during the morning round and then posted the day’s best score, shooting 2-under 278 in the second round, to vault to the top of the leaderboard.
Cavalier senior Ben Kohles, who was the medalist at the tournament in 2010, is tied for first place with Clemson’s Crawford Reeves at 1-under 139. Kohles had rounds of 69 and 70.
Ben Rusch, who led UVa with a ninth-place performance at last year’s tournament, is in sixth place at 143 following rounds of 74 and 69. Denny McCarthy and Bruce Woodall are tied for 11th at 144. McCarthy shot 74 and 70 while Woodall carded rounds of 75 and 69. Ji Soo Park is in 55th place at 151. He had scores of 75 and 76.
The final round of the tournament will be contested Tuesday.
