Kohles Continues to Lead Schenkel Invitational After 36 Holes

Statesboro, GA – Virginia senior men’s golfer Ben Kohles used a second-round score of 6-under 66 to stay in first place at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. Kohles’ two-day total of 13-under 131 is one shot ahead of Alabama’s Cory Whitsett. During Sunday’s final round, Kohles will attempt to win his second tournament in three weeks and the seventh during his career.

Thanks in part to Kohles’ score, Virginia climbed to second place after the second round. The 26th-ranked Cavaliers shot 8-under 275 for a two-day total of 558, one shot ahead of second-ranked Auburn. Alabama, which shot 20-under 268 Friday, put even more distance on the field with a second-round score of 269. After 36 holes the Crimson Tide leads the event at 39-under 537.

UVa’s Ben Rusch continues to stay in the top-10 with Kohles. He shot 1-under 71 Saturday and is in ninth place at 5-under 139. Freshman Denny McCarthy rebounded from an opening round 76 to shoot 4-under 68 and move up to 31st at 144. Bruce Woodall, Ji Soo Park and Mac McLaughlin are all tied for 56th at 148. Woodall carded a 70 during the second round while Park shot 74. McLaughlin, who is playing as a non-scoring individual, posted a score of 76.
