CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team had four individuals selected to compete in the 2012 NCAA Individual Championships, to be held May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Georgia. Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) and Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) received selections to the 64-player singles field, while the team of Jenkins and Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) was selected to the 32-team doubles field.

The Cavaliers have two of the top four seeds in the singles championship for the second consecutive year.

Frank is the No. 2 seed in the singles tournament, matching Domijan’s seed last year as the highest seed for a freshman in the past 20 years. This season he won both of the fall’s major events, taking the singles titles at the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA National Indoor Championships. The 2012 ACC Freshman of the Year will look to become the first player to win all three major singles titles in the same season since Sargis Sargsian of Arizona State in 1994-95. Frank has posted a 31-1 singles record during his rookie season.

Jenkins is seeded No. 4 in this year’s field and is making his third consecutive NCAA singles appearance. In each of the past two years he has advanced to the second round of the tournament. The 2012 ACC Player of the Year has posted a 29-3 singles record this season.

Domijan is making his second consecutive appearance in the tournament. After missing the fall due to injury, he posted a 21-3 singles record this spring, earning All-ACC honors.

The team of Courtney and Jenkins is a No. 5-8 seed in this year’s tournament after posting a 15-7 record this spring. It is their first appearance in the tournament as a duo, but each has competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship before. Jenkins competed last year with Domijan, while Courtney and Michael Shabaz teamed the last two years, winning the NCAA Doubles Championship in 2010.

Virginia, the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Team Championship, opens play May 12-13 as it hosts first and second action at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers (24-1) meet Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round on May 12 at 12 p.m., with VCU and Columbia also competing in the Charlottesville Regional.
