CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Nick Sulzer (R-Fr., Cleveland, Ohio) has been named to the Amateur Wrestling News’ All-Rookie Team for the 2011-12 season. Sulzer was a fourth-team selection in the 165-pound class.

The team includes both true freshmen and redshirt freshmen.

Sulzer qualified for the 2012 NCAA Championships after taking third place at the ACC Championships. He went 27-9 on the season, including a 10-2 mark in dual matches.

In addition to leading the Cavaliers in wins, Sulzer also recorded a team-best 11 major decisions.

Sulzer went 2-2 while at the NCAA Championships, with wins over No. 10 seed Cody Yohn of Minnesota and Coleman Gracey of Army. Both of his NCAA losses came in narrow decisions to eventual All-Americans – Josh Asper of Maryland (6-4) and Ben Jordan of Wisconsin (3-2).

Sulzer was ranked No. 15 in the final Amateur Wrestling News poll and 16th in the final InterMat and WIN rankings. He ranked No. 17 in the final NCAA RPI and 18th in the NCAA Coaches rankings.
