CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –

Virginia track and field seniors Andy Fahringer (Whitehall, Pa.), Marcus Robinson (Richmond, Va.) and Lance Roller (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) are slated to compete at the 2012 U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on June 22-July 1.

In addition to the trio, four former members of the Virginia track and field program are set to compete for spots on the U.S. Olympic Team and will participate in the 2012 London Olympics, including Robby Andrews, Stephanie Garcia, Lyndsay Harper and Ayla Smith.

The trials start with Hammer Time up in Beaverton, Ore., at the Nike World Headquarters on Thursday (June 21), before moving down to Hayward Field June 22- July 1.

The NBC Sports Group presents unprecedented coverage of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials as American athletes compete for a chance to take part in the London Games. A total of 12 hours of live track and field coverage will be a part of a record 67.5 hours of total Olympic Team Trials coverage by NBC in 2012.

Fahringer will compete in the men’s javelin qualifying round on Saturday (June 23) at 3:30 p.m. He broke the school record at the Virginia Challenge on May 12 with a throw of 75.19m (246’ 8”). He won the men’s javelin championship at the Penn Relays and finished second at the ACC Championships at Lannigan Field.

“My training has been going well despite it definitely being a challenge to shake away not qualifying for nationals,” Fahringer said. “The training staff has put me in a position to compete and my goal is to represent the school at the finals and anything after that is icing on the cake. It’s really exciting to compete in Eugene.”

Robinson will take part in the men’s triple jump on June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Robinson earned First-Team All-America honors in both the indoor and outdoor seasons and was the ACC Champion at the indoor and outdoor conference meets. He broke both the indoor and the outdoor school records, with his personal best mark of 16.63m (54’ 6.75”) coming during the indoor season.

“Competing in the Olympic Trials is a great honor and I am glad that I have the opportunity to compete against the best in the USA and that I’m a part of the best in country,” Robinson said. “Training has been great and I am feeling good, which is a plus going into the meet.”

Roller will run in the men’s 800 meters first round on Friday (June 22). He is a three-time All-American, including a second-team nod during the 2012 outdoor season. Roller was the 800m ACC Champion and a part of the 4×400 relay that also claimed gold. His season-best time of 1:47.07 came at the NCAA Championships.

Andrews was a two-time NCAA Champion in the 800 meters at Virginia, taking home the 2010 indoor and 2011 outdoor crowns. The Englishtown, N.J., native will compete in the men’s 1,500m first round on June 28 at 1:20 p.m. He ran a personal best 3:34.78 at the USATF Oxy High Performance Meet in Los Angeles on May 18.

Garcia was a three-time All-America for the Cavaliers and competed in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. The South Riding, Va., native set a personal best time of 9:41.12 at the Gent Flanders Cup in Belgium. That mark ranks fifth of the declared entries for this meet. The qualifying round for the women’s steeple is on June 25 at 7:50 p.m.

Harper was a two-time All-American for Virginia, including 2011 second-team honors in the women’s 800 meters. The first round is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday (June 22). The Albuquerque, N.M., native set a personal best of 2:03.16 at the American Milers Club High Performance Meet in Indianapolis on June 9.

Smith earned two All-America citations as a Cavalier including a second-team nod in the women’s 400 hurdles in 2011 when she set a personal-best time of 56.54 at the NCAA Championships. Her season-best time this year is 56.79, set at the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field on May 12. The first round of the 400mH is June 28 at 8:30 p.m.

The USATF announces the official entrants for each event two days before their start. Junior Morgane Gay (Bethesda, Md.) could be selected to compete in the in the women’s 1,500m on Tuesday (June 26). If selected, VirginiaSports.com will have full coverage of Gay’s results as well.
