Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia football team will hold practices open to the general public for six consecutive days beginning with the start of fall camp on Monday, Aug. 6 and concluding Saturday, Aug. 11.

The open practices will start at 4 p.m. Monday and at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and will be held at The Park, the University’s intramural fields located at 1015 Massie Road. The final open practice will be Saturday, Aug. 11 at Scott Stadium beginning at 4 p.m. Each of the open practices will last approximately two hours. Practice times are subject to change pending weather conditions. Admission is free.

During these open practice times the Cavaliers will not workout on their traditional practice fields behind the McCue Center due to conditions created by the construction of the new indoor football practice facility.

“Our fans are an important part of the Virginia football program,” head coach Mike London said. “The open practices at The Park and Scott Stadium provide an opportunity for them to see the newcomers in action and the development of our returning players as we prepare to kickoff the 2012 season. I look forward to seeing many of our great fans during the first week of practice.”

Information for Open Practices at The ParkFor practices held at The Park, fans may park for free in the facility’s main parking lot. Additional parking for these practices is located in the D-3 parking lot in front of the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) School off Massie Road.

Fans may view practices at The Park from bleachers and standing room areas around the perimeter fence of fields 2-5.

Information for the Open Practice at Scott StadiumFans attending the Saturday, Aug. 11 practice at Scott Stadium can park for free in the venue’s west parking lot and enter the facility through the west gate. Seating will be in the stands on the west side of the stadium.

Fans should be aware that electronic recording devices, including mobile phones, are not allowed to be on during the practices. Restrooms will be available to the public at both sites.

Meet the Team Day InformationVirginia will hold its annual Meet the Team Day at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday, Aug. 19. Players and coaches will be available for photos and autographs from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The main entrance as well as the arena’s southeast and garage entrances will be used for Meet the Team Day. Each entrance will open at 1:30 p.m.

 Admission is free.

Fans will be able to pick up copies of the 2012 Cavalier Football schedule poster, schedule magnet and schedule cards. The first 500 youth in attendance will receive a free UVa-Nike mini football. The Cavalier Team Shop in the arena’s lobby will be open and concession stands featuring beverages and snacks will be available on the arena floor. All fans in attendance also have the opportunity to win door prizes.

There will be plenty of activities for young Cavalier fans, including inflatable games and other activities. The Cavalier and his horse, Sabre, will be in attendance along with members of the Virginia spirit teams.

Virginia opens its season Sept. 1 at Scott Stadium against Richmond at 3 p.m.

Directions to The Park (1015 Massie Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903)

From the East/West: I-64 to exit 118B (towards Charlottesville). You will be heading north on Route 29/Route 250. Take the Leonard Sandridge Road exit. Turn left onto Massie Road at the first stoplight. Continue on Massie Road and stay straight through the three-way stop sign (the University of Virginia School of Law is on your left). The Park’s parking lot is at the bottom of Massie Road.

From the North: Take Route 29 south into Charlottesville (Route 29 will become Emmet Street). Turn right at Arlington Boulevard (past the Barracks Road shopping center). At the next stop sign (a three-way intersection), turn right onto Massie Road, bear right at the fork, and go down the road to the parking lot.

From the South: Head north on Route 29/Route 250. Take the Leonard Sandridge Road exit. Turn left onto Massie Road at the first stoplight. Continue on Massie Road and stay straight through the three-way stop sign (the University of Virginia School of Law is on your left). The Park’s parking lot is at the bottom of Massie Road.
