Penn State Postgame Notes

• Penn State falls to 4-3* all-time vs. Virginia (*with one vacated win) and falls for the second straight time in Charlottesville after a 20-14 loss in2001.

• Virginia is the first of five Penn State road opponents on the season, all of which played in a bowl game last season.

• Penn State’s opening drive of 17 plays, 75 yards in 6:27 for a TD, marked its most plays in a drive on the season to date and its most plays in a scoringdrive since posting a season high 18 play drive for a FG vs. Iowa on Oct. 8 of last year.

• Penn State’s defense forced a season high four turnovers on the day, recording three fumble recoveries and an interception. It marked the most turnovers forced by Penn State since forcing four in a victory over Illinois on Oct. 29 of last season.

• The Penn State defense recorded season highs of seven tackles for loss and three sacks, two sacks coming from freshman Deion Barnes and one from sophomore Mike Hull.

• Penn State held Virginia to 32 yards rushing on 25 attempts (1.3 ypc).

• Penn State ran for a season high 121 yards on 42 carries, nearly doubling the 22 rushing attempts logged in the season opener. Penn State passed 43 times and ran 42 times on the day for a total of 330 yards.

• Penn State recorded 85 offensive plays to Virginia’s 61 on the day.

• True Freshman QB Steven Bench saw his first career action, entering the game on a fourth and four play in the second quarter. Bench is the third true freshman to play at quarterback for Penn State in the last decade joining Anthony Morelli (2004) and Rob Bolden (2010).

• QB Steven Bench completed his first collegiate pass with a 7-yard completion to Allen Robinson in the second quarter. He finished 2-of-7 for 12 yards on the day.

• WR Allen Robinson recorded his first career touchdown reception on a 30-yard pass from Matt McGloin at the start of the fourth quarter. It also marked acareer long reception for the sophomore.

• WR Allen Robinson eclipsed his career high in receptions set last week (9) by posting 10 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown to lead the Lions in receiving. He is the first Lion to post double-digit receptions in a game since Derrick Williams had 10 vs. Purdue in 2007. Robinson now has 19 catches for 186 yards and a TD through two games.

• Fifth-year senior RB Derek Day made his first career start. He finished the day with a career high 18 carries and 47 yards and posted a career long reception of 17 yards in the first quarter.

• WR Alex Kenney posted a pair of career long catches of 23 and 24 yards in athird quarter Penn State drive. He finished with a career-high three receptions and 50 yards receiving.

• K Sam Ficken’s 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter marked his first of the season and the second of his career.

• RB Curtis Dukes logged a career-most 10 carries on the day.

• DT Jordan Hill recorded his first career interception in the second quarter, giving the Lions the ball on the UVA 19-yard line.

• LB Michael Mauti forced his second career fumble in the first quarter. He later recovered his first career fumble in the fourth quarter giving Penn State the ball on the UVA 17. Mauti led the Lions with nine tackles and also added a pass break-up on the day.

• DE Deion Barnes recorded his first career sacks, posting two on the day andforcing a fourth quarter fumble.

• S Stephen Obeng-Agyapong recovered his first career fumble in the first quarter

• LB Glenn Carson recorded his first career carry as he rumbled 19 yards for a first down on a fake punt in the second quarter.

• LB Gerald Hodges collected his first career fumble recovery in the third quarter on a fumbled snap.

• LB Mike Hull recorded his first career sack in the fourth quarter.
