Hanahan, S.C. – The 12th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team will enter Tuesday’s final round of the Cougar Classic in Hanahan, S.C. tied for fourth place in the 24-team field. The Cavaliers shot 2-over 290 Monday for a two-day total of even par 576.

Florida used a 9-under 279 to move to the top of the field at 11-under 565. USC dropped back to second place at 8-under 568. Vanderbilt is in third place at 574 and Auburn is tied with the Cavaliers for fourth place.

The field for the tournament includes 10 of the top 15 finishers from the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Elizabeth Brightwell shot a career-best 2-under 70 to lead the Cavaliers during the second round. She moved up to a tie with teammate Portland Rosen for 14th place at 1-under 143 through 36 holes. Rosen shot 74 Monday after opening with a 3-under 69.

Brittany Altomare is in 28th place at 145 after shooting even par 72 Monday. Briana Mao is two strokes behind her in 42nd place after posting a 76 and Melissa Edmonson shot 74 for the second straight day and is in 51st place at 148.

Florida’s Camilla Hedberg leads the field in stroke play at 7-under 135. She carded a 66 during the second round.

The third round of the tournament will be contested Tuesday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
