Charlottesville, Va. – After being closed for 17 months as part of a major replacement project, the bridge that spans the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks just east of the intersection of Jefferson Park Avenue and Fontaine Avenue has reopened. This will improve the pre- and post-game traffic flow for Virginia’s home football games, specifically for fans traveling to and from the south side of Scott Stadium.

During the closure, fans had to use alternate routes that did not allow access through the Fry’s Spring neighborhood and Jefferson Park Avenue Extended. Those routes are once again available for vehicles as an option on game day.

Following UVa home games fans traveling south on Alderman Road/Maury Avenue will be able to go straight onto Jefferson Park Avenue Extended instead of only being forced to turn right on Fontaine Avenue. The outbound right lane on Maury Avenue must turn right onto Fontaine Avenue.

The replacement project widened the bridge from 28 feet to 67 feet. It now accommodates bike lanes and pedestrian walkways for improved access and safety.
