CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia redshirt senior midfielder Michelle Vittese has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Vittese scored four goals in two wins as the Cavaliers downed No. 4 Maryland, 3-2, and Saint Joseph’s, 6-3. The four goals scored were all unassisted as the midfielder created her own opportunities and scored on all four shots taken.

In addition to the two goals she scored on Friday against the Terrapins, the Cherry Hill, N.J., native also got a steal deep in the Maryland offensive zone that she dribbled out and passed to Paige Selenski, who went on to score the game-winning goal. Defensively, Vittese had two blocked shots during the Maryland game and was a strong defensive presence.

On Sunday, she tallied two goals against Saint Joseph’s as the Cavaliers improved to 11-2 overall.

This is the first ACC Player of the Week honor for Vittese and the second time this season that a Cavalier has earned the accolade. Paige Selenski was named ACC Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 2.
