MADISON, Wis.—The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday afternoon (Oct. 12) in Madison, Wis.

The men finished 27th overall out of 45 schools with 639 points, while the women placed 40th with 946. Stanford won the men’s race with 135 points, while Iowa State claimed the women’s title with 109 points.

Like their last race, the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational, the Cavaliers were led by graduate students. Zach Gates (Fishers, Ind.) was the top finisher for the men, crossing the line 24th overall in an 8K time of 23:48, while Catherine White (Roanoke, Va.) placed 21st overall in 6K time of 20:06 to lead the women.

Junior Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.) was next for the men, finishing 60th overall in 24:05. Senior Sean Keveren (Brentwood, Tenn.), sophomore Drew Paisley (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Taylor Gilland (Chapel Hill, N.C.) rounded out the scoring five.

On the women’s side, junior Barbara Strehler (Richmond, Va.) was second for UVa and 145th overall in 21:04, while senior Vicky Fouhy (Buckinghamshire, England), freshman Audrey Batzel (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Ariel Karabinus (Manassas, Va.) rounded out the five that scored.

Up next, the Cavaliers will compete in the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships in Blacksburg, Va., on Oct. 27.
