Cavaliers Picked Seventh in ACC Preseason Coaches Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia men’s basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the inaugural poll of the league’s head coaches.

N.C. State finished first in the voting by the conference’s 12 head coaches in the preseason poll with 139 points. The Wolfpack received eight of the 12 first place votes in the poll with Duke receiving three and North Carolina one. Duke was second in the poll with 130 points followed by North Carolina (124), Miami (104), Florida State (103), Maryland (78), Virginia (68), Clemson (61), Georgia Tech (40), Virginia Tech and Wake Forest (tied at 32) and Boston College (25).

The coaches’ Preseason All-ACC team consisted of Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Leslie of NC State, James Michael McAdoo of North Carolina, Mason Plumlee of Duke and Michael Snaer of Florida State. Leslie was the selection for Preseason ACC Player of the Year and N.C. State’s Rodney Purvis was the Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year.

This marks this first year that the ACC coaches have predicted a preseason order of finish or voted on individual honors. Media members will vote on their predicted order of finish and other preseason honors during the ACC’s annual Operation Basketball, which will be held Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C.
