CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman wrestler George DiCamillo (Highland Heights, Ohio) won the 133-pound championship at the Hokie Open Sunday in Salem, Va. In his first college tournament and competing unattached, DiCamillo went 5-0 in the field and defeated North Carolina’s Joey Ward, 3-1, in the finals.

Also competing unattached, Gus Sako (Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) rebounded from an early defeat to reel off seven wins and pull out a fifth-place finish at 149 pounds. He avenged his early loss to Duke’s Marcus Cain with a 6-1 victory in the consolation semifinals and later defeated Virginia Tech’s Chad Strube in the fifth-place bout.

In all, 10 Cavaliers competed unattached in the tournament. Joseph Martinez (So., Platteville, Colo.) also recorded four wins at 133 pounds.

Virginia returns to team dual competition next Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Gardner-Webb Duals. The 16th-ranked Cavaliers will take on George Mason at 9 a.m. and the host Bulldogs at 11 a.m.
