Head coach Joanne Boyle

Opening Statement
“A lot of credit goes to Maryland. I think they are a great team. I thought they dominated the entire game. We have a lot of work to do, obviously.”

On the demoralizing effect of the first possession
“I felt like it was six offensive rebounds on that first possession [for Maryland]. You can tell your team everything. You are not going to out jump them. They are physical. They are +20 on the boards on people. Don’t try to out jump them. Put a body on them. All of a sudden, we went out there and we just stayed in that funk. We have to figure ourselves out.”

On the transition game
“We turned the ball over 22 times. A lot of those turnovers happened above the free throw line and then there is no transition defense. We had balls ripped out of our hands. There was no toughness to us tonight. It was just disappointing. We are going to be challenged because we need to figure out our identity and who we want to be this year. For a game and a half now, I feel we have been back on our heels. So we are going to be tested here.”

On the upcoming extended break between games
“As a coach, you always want to play another game. But yah, it is a great opportunity for us to go to work and have ten days of practice to really get after it and figure out who we are. We need to have some tough practices. We have to challenge ourselves here.”

On what went well during the 16-2 run
“We went man-to-man. And really, to me, the one bright spot was Jaryn [Garner]. Jaryn came in and played with a lot of heart. She wasn’t afraid. She attacked the rim. She played good defense for us. I’m happy with how she came in. She’s really the one who kind of changed the tempo of everything that was going on. And then we got some stops. We got the ball into our post players a little bit. We got fouled. We went to the free throw line. The tempo of the game changed a little bit. But Maryland is a good team. They are not just going to lay down and die. They came back and we didn’t respond.”

Junior forward Jazmin Pitts

On how tough it was to try to rebound against Maryland
“It was pretty tough because they were sending everybody to the boards. It was a real battle down there.”

On the upcoming extended break between games
“We need to find ourselves in these next ten days and see if we really want to do this or not. It is going to be a battle come ACC time in January.”
