Virginia Plays at Georgia Tech on Super Bowl Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia takes its four-game winning streak to Georgia Tech for a game against the Yellow Jackets on Sunday, Feb. 3. Tipoff at McCamish Pavilion is set for 3 p.m.

The game will be televised by ESPNU and broadcast on the Virginia Sports Radio Network.

Virginia (15-5, 5-2 ACC) extended its ACC winning streak to four games after its 58-55 win over No. 19 NC State on Tuesday. Junior Joe Harris (Chelan, Wash.) tallied an ACC-high 22 points and Akil Mitchell (Charlotte, N.C.) added 14 points and 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double. Mike Tobey (Monroe, N.Y.) chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Georgia Tech (11-8, 1-6 ACC) battled in a 63-60 loss at Clemson on Tuesday after netting its first ACC win against Wake Forest (82-62) last Saturday.

The Cavaliers are 5-0 in their last five meetings against the Yellow Jackets and 34-38 all-time against Georgia Tech, including an 11-22 away mark, in a series that dates back to 1947-48. Virginia has won its last four games vs. Georgia Tech in Atlanta, including a 70-38 decision at Phillips Arena in the only meeting between the teams last season. Georgia Tech is the only ACC team UVa is undefeated against in the four-year Tony Bennett era.

The Cavaliers have held their first seven ACC opponents under 60 points for the first time in ACC history and rank in the top 10 nationally in eight defensive categories, highlighted by their third-ranked scoring defense of 51.2 points per game. Offensively Virginia is averaging 62.6 points per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3-point land.

Harris is the top 3-point shooter in the ACC at a career-high 45.9 percent. Harris also leads Virginia in scoring at 15.2 points per game and has reached double figures in scoring in 17-of-20 games. Harris needs 11 points to become the 44th Cavalier to score 1,000 career points.

Mitchell is averaging a career-high 12.4 points per game and ranks third in the ACC with a career-best nine rebounds per game. Senior point guard Jontel Evans (Hampton, Va.), who sealed the NC State with a pair of free throws, is averaging 6.5 assists in his last four games.

Freshmen Evan Nolte (Milton, Ga.), Tobey and Justin Anderson (Montross, Va.) are each averaging more than six points per game in ACC action.

Head coach Tony Bennett sports a 68-46 record, including a 4-0 mark against Georgia Tech, in four seasons at Virginia.

The Yellow Jackets are averaging 65.6 points per game and yielding 59.7 ppg. The Yellow Jackets rank third in the ACC in rebounding at 38 per game. Georgia Tech is led in scoring by freshman forward Marcus Georges-Hunt at 10.5 points per game, while junior forward Robert Carter, Jr. has added 10.1 ppg and a team-leading 6.7 rebounds per game.

Head coach Brian Gregory has a 22-28 mark in two seasons at Georgia Tech. Gregory is 194-122 in 10 seasons of collegiate coaching.

The Cavaliers return home to host Clemson on Thursday, Feb. 7. Tipoff at John Paul Jones Arena is set for 7 p.m.
