Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia Athletics is hosting a donor appreciation event with a free concert by Earth Wind & Fire on Saturday, Feb. 23. All donors to the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) have received special invitations to register for free tickets. Now fans who make a deposit on 2013 Virginia football season tickets and join the Virginia Athletics Foundation can take advantage of a special opportunity to attend the free Earth, Wind & Fire concert at John Paul Jones Arena.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, Earth, Wind & Fire will perform in JPJ as part of a Virginia Athletics appreciation event to celebrate 10 years of success by UVa’s athletics teams and the tremendous donor support that helps to fund the Cavaliers’ 25 sports programs. Former Cavalier football standout Ronde Barber will serve as the master of ceremonies for the evening’s activities. Barber just completed his 16th season with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Donors must register in advance using their special invitation. Fans will also have a chance to register for tickets for the Earth, Wind & Fire concert by making a $50 per seat deposit on 2013 Virginia football season tickets and a minimum donation of $100 to VAF. They may then register for up to six tickets to the concert. Donations to VAF are used to fund athletics scholarships and operational expenses for the athletics department.

Fans may place 2013 season ticket deposits and make a donation to the Virginia Athletics Foundation through the links listed above or by attending the free Football Signing Day Celebration at JPJ on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.

The donor appreciation event featuring Earth, Wind & Fire will start at 7 p.m. with a look back at accomplishments of the Virginia athletics department over the last decade. During that time period the Cavaliers won 53 Atlantic Coast Conference titles and seven NCAA team championships. Doors at JPJ open at 6 p.m. The 30-minute program will start at 7 p.m. followed by the concert.

In 2013 Virginia will play eight home football games at Scott Stadium for the first time in the program’s history. The Cavaliers’ home slate includes BYU (Aug. 31), Oregon (Sept. 7), VMI (Sept. 21), Ball State (Oct. 5) and ACC opponents Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. The ACC is expected to release Virginia’s full schedule with game dates later this month.
