CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team will play in three tournaments during their spring training, one indoor tournament and a pair of outdoor tournaments, including a home tournament in April.

The Cavaliers will be competing at the Big Apple International Indoor Championship on Feb. 16-17 in Feasterville, Pa. The tournament will feature two pools of five teams with Virginia fielding two squads, the Hoos and the Cavaliers.

“We break up the spring season to indoor and outdoor,” Virginia head coach Michele Madison said. “We play one indoor tournament to work on getting lower, getting stronger on the ball, passing quality, and defensively on our pressing and double teams. We really focus more on those things to bring from the indoor game and transfer to the outdoor game. But the team loves to play. We are able to bring two teams this year, so they’ll get a lot of playing time. Maybe they’ll even have to compete against each other, so that’s always fun.”

Virginia will also play in a pair of outdoor tournaments, the Duke Invitational March 23-24 in Durham, N.C. and the Commonwealth Cup, held on Sunday, April 7 at Turf Field in Charlottesville. More details and a full schedule for the Commonwealth Cup will be released at a later date.
