UVa Women's Golfers in 10th Place After First Round at UCF Challenge

Sorrento, Fla. – The 18th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied for 10th place following the opening round of play at the UCF Challenge taking place in Sorrento, Fla., at the Redtail Golf Club. Virginia shot 8-over 296 during its first round of the spring season at the 18-team tournament, which runs through Tuesday.
Redshirt freshman (Chesapeake, Va.), playing in her first collegiate tournament, shot 3-under 69 to tie for fourth place after the first round. Coughlin is competing as an individual and her results do not factor into UVa’s team scoring.
Coughlin shot par on each of her first nine holes, posted consecutive birdies on holes 10, 11 and 12, and then finished out her round with six more pars.
Sophomore Briana Mao led the Cavaliers competing in the team portion of the tournament with a 2-under 70. That was one stroke better than her previous best single-round score. Mao finished the first day in eighth place.
Portland Rosen finished at 2-over 74 to stand in 35th place. Nicole Agnello was 49th at 75, Brittany Altomare was 71st at 77 and Elizabeth Brightwell placed 99th with an 85.
South Carolina grabbed the tournament’s early lead at 4-unde 284. North Carolina and UCF are tied for second at 287. Augusta State teammates Natalie Wille and Casey Kennedy are tied for first place at 5-under 67.
The Cavaliers start their second round at 10:09 a.m. Monday from the 10th tee while paired with Ole Miss and South Florida.
