Greensboro, N.C. – Virginia’s Briana Mao, a sophomore from Folsom, Calif., is the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for February after claiming first-place at the UCF Challenge, the ACC announced Thursday.
Mao led the Cavaliers to a team fifth-place finish at the UCF Challenge, which was played at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla., by shooting a 4-under 212 for the tournament, taking first-place honors. Mao shot a 70-69-73, finishing first among a field of 99 players. It was the first career tournament win for Mao and her first round score of 70 was a career-best. With the win, Mao became the fifth Virginia player to record at least one tournament win in the 10-year history of the Virginia women’s golf program.
Virginia will next be in action at the Darius Rucker Invitational, which will be held March 8-10 at the Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
