Virgina Earns a Six-Seed for the ACC Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia women’s basketball team will take on the No. 11 seed, Boston College, on Thursday, March 7 at 8 p.m. in the opening-round of the 2013 ACC Tournament, held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
The Virginia women basketball team’s 72-60 victory over No. 24 Florida State on Sunday secured the Cavaliers a sixth-place finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference and earned the team its No. 6 seed in the tournament.
The first round of the 36th Annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament is set to tip-off at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 7, and will conclude with a 2 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 10. The title game will be shown nationally by ESPN2, while the first round, quarterfinal and semifinals games will be televised on the league’s regional sports package. RSN, which reaches nearly 32 million households and includes FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Florida, Sun Sports, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, and NESN. Those games will also be available via ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
Each of the top four seeds earned first-round byes and will open play on Friday, March 8 in the quarterfinal round. The winner of the Virginia/Boston College game will advance to face No. 3 North Carolina at 8 p.m. on March 8. North Carolina was slotted as the No. 3 seed after tying for second place in the regular-season standings with Maryland. The deadlock was decided by a coin flip that was won by Maryland.
Virginia and Boston College split the season series with the Cavaliers winning 69-57 in Charlottesville and falling 61-49 in Chestnut Hill.
