Charlottesville, Va. – This weekend the 15th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team will make its first appearance at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. This is the 41st playing of the event that has been won by host Florida 17 times.

The 54-hole tournament runs Friday through Sunday and is held at the University of Florida’s par-70, 6,074-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.

The field for this year’s event (Golfstat ranking) includes: Alabama (3), Baylor (18), FIU (42), Florida (5), Florida State (49), Kent State, Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina (6), Oklahoma (4), Oklahoma State (21), San Diego State, South Florida, UT Chattanooga and Virginia (15).

Virginia’s lineup will include Brittany Altomare, Briana Mao, Elizabeth Brightwell, Portland Rosen and Kaira Martin.

It is the Cavaliers second tournament during the school’s Spring Break period. UVa placed seventh out of 18 teams at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate behind Mao’s ninth-place effort.

UVa is paired with South Florida and Oklahoma State during Friday’s opening round. Those teams will tee off starting at 9:45 a.m. from the first tee.
