CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday.

Nauta was named the Most Valuable Player at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Sunday as Virginia defeated No. 50 Tulane, 4-1, in the championship match. Nauta went 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles as Virginia also defeated Michigan State (4-0) and No. 34 Yale (4-3) at the tournament.

Nauta, who is ranked No. 71 in singles, went 3-1 singles and 5-0 in doubles in the Cavaliers’ five matches last week. In singles play, Nauta collected two wins at the No. 1 slot over Tulane’s No. 92 Klara Vyskocilova (6-4, 6-1) and Yale’s Madeline Hamilton (6-1, 6-1). Nauta was leading Michigan State’s Marina Bohrer, 6-1, 3-2, before the match was decided. She also picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Baylor’s Victoria Kisialeva at No. 2.

In doubles action, Nauta paired with Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) to go 3-0 at No. 1 and 2-0 at No. 2. The duo surrendered just four total games to their counterparts from Baylor, Yale and Michigan State at No. 1, and earned 8-2 and 8-4 wins over tandems from Texas A&M and Baylor at No. 2, respectively.

Nauta joins freshman Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) as Cavaliers who have received ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades this season.

Virginia hosts Boston College and Virginia Tech in ACC action on Friday-Saturday, March 22-23. First serve is set for 12 p.m. each day at Snyder Tennis Center. Admission is free.
