CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (6-5, 0-3 ACC) plays the second of three-straight road contests, taking on Boston College (4-6, 1-2 ACC) on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. at the Newton Campus Field in Newton, Mass.
Virginia has won four of its last five games, including Wednesday’s 16-12 victory at Old Dominion. Boston College has lost three of its last four games, with the lone win coming on March 20 at home against Boston University.
Virginia is looking for its first ACC-win of the season. BC defeated Virginia Tech, 15-7, in Blacksburg for its lone ACC victory this season.
Boston College is 0-5 this season against ranked teams, including a 17-12 loss on Wednesday to No. 5 Syracuse. Virginia is 4-0 this season against unranked opponents. Since 2010, the Cavaliers have amassed a 23-1 record against teams not ranked in the top-20 in the IWLCA poll, with their only loss coming last season at Virginia Tech.
The Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 9-1, with the Eagles lone victory coming on their home turf in 2011 when No. 19 BC upset No. 7 UVa, 12-6. Virginia downed the Eagles twice last season, winning 12-10 in Charlottesville in the regular-season match-up and 13-8 in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
Boston College’s attack is lead by Covie Stanwick, who has scored 35 goals with 13 assists. Stanwick’s brother, Steele, played for the UVa men’s lacrosse team from 2009-12 and is being honored at halftime of Saturday’s game at Klöckner Stadium for graduating from UVa as the all-time points leader. Forty-eight of Stanwick’s career assists were for goals scored by Chris Bocklet, brother of Casey Bocklet (So., South Salem, N.Y.), Virginia’s leading scorer.
Bocklet is the only Cavalier player to have scored at least one goal in every game this season. She had her fifth hat trick of the season at Old Dominion on Wednesday. Bocklet came into the week ranked fourth in the ACC in points per game (3.8) and 36th in the NCAA. Bocklet is also ranked fifth in the ACC in assists per game (1.2) and seventh in goals per game (2.6).
Kelly Boyd (Fr., Baltimore, Md.) became the 13th different Cavalier to score this season with her goal in the first half at Old Dominion, which was also the first of her collegiate career. Boyd added two more goals before halftime to log a hat trick.
Liz Colgan (Jr., Cockeysville, Md.), making her third-straight start, logged 13 saves against ODU, the second-highest single-game total for an ACC goalie this season.
Virginia, who has won more draw controls than its opponent in all but one game this season, won a season-high 21 draws against ODU with the Monarchs winning nine. Morgan Stephens (So., Olney, Md.) won six draw controls, tying the Cavaliers’ best performance in the draw circle of the season. Daniela Eppler (So., Baltimore, Md.) had five draw controls.
Virginia also had a season-best five free position goals in eight attempts in Norfolk.
Ashlee Warner (Jr., Corning, N.Y.) added to her already-impressive season stats with three goals and two assists at ODU. Warner has 22 goals with 13 assists, trailing only Bocklet in goals, assists and points for the Cavaliers this season. Warner also corralled three ground balls at ODU, giving her 13 this season, which also ranks second on the team.
After Boston College, the Cavaliers wrap up their three-game road trip on Tuesday, April 2 at American at 4 p.m.
The Cavaliers will close out the regular-season with three home games against Northwestern (April 7), Johns Hopkins (April 11) and Virginia Tech (April 17)

Tickets are also available on game day at the Klöckner Stadium ticket windows, subject to availability, beginning one hour prior to the game.
