GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia freshman Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Elbaba earns her second ACC weekly honor after posting a 3-0 singles record, including two wins against ranked opponents, and 2-0 doubles mark as No. 27 Virginia defeated top-ranked North Carolina and North Carolina Central last Saturday. The win over No. 1 North Carolina marked Virginia’s first win against a top-ranked program in school history.

In the 4-3 win at North Carolina, Elbaba defeated No. 43 Zoe De Bruycker 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and clinched the doubles point for UVa with Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.), defeating the Tar Heels’ Tessa Lyons and Gina Suarez-Malaguti, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.

In the 4-3 loss at Duke on Friday, Elbaba defeated No. 52 Ester Goldfeld of Duke 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Tomljanovic to beat Hanna Mar and Mary Clayton, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.

Elbaba, who is ranked No. 15 in singles, added a 6-0, 6-1 win over North Carolina Central’s Olysya Palko on Saturday.

Elbaba, who also earned ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors on Jan. 22, leads Virginia with a 26-8 overall record. She is 10-6 in dual action, including a perfect 5-0 ACC singles record.

The Cavaliers host Wake Forest, NC State and East Tennessee State on Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7 at Snyder Tennis Center.
