Annapolis, Md. – The Virginia men’s golf team is tied for first place following the opening round of play at the Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Course. The Cavaliers shot 10-over 294 and are tied with the Midshipmen A-team for first place. Virginia Tech and Wake Forest share third place at 12-over 296 in the 19-team field.

UVa senior Mac McLaughlin shares the overall lead at 1-under 70 along with Wake Forest’s Evan Beck. The Cavaliers’ David Pastore is in fifth place at 72 while Nick Tremps and Ji Soo Park are tied for 29th place at 76. Denny McCarthy shot 77 and is in 43rd place.

The Navy Spring Invitational is Virginia’s final non-conference tournament of the season. The final round will take place Sunday.
