CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams will conclude their 2013 home schedule with the Virginia Challenge, held Friday and Saturday at Lannigan Field. A strong field of collegiate and professional athletes will be competing in a meet that features Olympians, All-Americans and ACC Champions.

The meet begins at 3 p.m. on Friday with the start of the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon. Friday’s field events will begin at 3:40 p.m. and the track events will start at 7:10 p.m. Saturday’s schedule begins at 2 p.m. with the continuation of the multi events and the start of that day’s field events. Saturday’s track events start at 3:30 p.m. with the sprints and the distance events begin at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free.

Among the meet highlights, Virginia volunteer assistant coach Ehsan Haddadi, the 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist, will be throwing in the discus competition on Friday night, as will Virginia assistant coach Martin Maric, a two-time Olympian. The graduating Cavaliers will also be recognized during a Senior Day ceremony on Saturday night.

10 Must See Events of the Virginia Challenge

Women’s High Jump • Friday (5:00 p.m.)
The first jump event of the meet features five competitors, including three ranked in the top 50 nationally. Virginia’s Moira Cronin and Pearl Bickersteth and West Virginia’s Sydney Cummings have all been among the nation’s best this year. The field also includes former West Virginia All-American Chelsea Eades.

Men’s Discus • Friday (6:00 p.m.)
Virginia volunteer assistant Ehsan Haddadi, the 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist, and Virginia assistant coach Martin Maric, a two-time Olympian, headline an elite field. The Cavaliers’ Tom Marcucci and 2013 ACC runner-up Austin Gamble of Duke are among the collegiate athletes competing in the event.

Women’s 200m Invitational • Friday (7:35 p.m.)
Three of the eight competitors are Cavaliers, including Virginia indoor 200m record holder Danielle Williams, along with Jordan Lavender and Peyton Chaney, who finished third and fourth respectively in the event at the ACC Championships.

Men’s 400m • Saturday (4:05 p.m.)
Virginia’s Payton Hazzard, who finished fourth in this event at the ACC Championships, takes on a strong field. Dane Hyatt of Division II St. Augustine, who reached the Olympic semifinals of the event in London competing for Jamaica, is also among the 12 competitors in the event.

Women’s 800m • Saturday (5:30 p.m.)
Five of the top 100 in the nation this season are competing, including Virginia’s Vanessa Fabrizio. Colette Gnade and Natalia Kuhn are also presenting the Cavaliers in an event that also has two of the top 15 in Division II and one of the top five in the Division III.

Men’s Triple Jump • Saturday (7:00 p.m.)
The Cavaliers’ Ryan Satchell is among a strong field of eight jumpers. Former Virginia Tech standout Hasheem Halim, who finished fourth in the event at last year’s NCAA Championships, and former Indiana All-American Olu Olamigoke are also competing.

Women’s 1500m • Saturday (7:50 p.m.)
A stacked field that includes eight of the top 40 runners in the nation this season, including Virginia’s Vicky Fouhy, are in the field. Fellow Cavalier senior Barbara Strehler is also competing, as is former Cavalier All-American Stephanie Garcia.

Men’s 800m Invitational • Saturday (8:25 p.m.)
This nine-man field has Virginia’s Anthony Kostelac among a field of elite runners. Georgetown’s Billy Ledder and Virginia Tech’s Tihut Degfae both have top 30 collegiate times this season and the field also includes Moise Joseph, a two-time Olympian from Haiti.

Women’s 5000m • Saturday (8:55 p.m.)
Five Cavaliers will compete, including Catherine White making her final home meet appearance. Florida State’s Amanda Winslow, Colleen Quigley and Kayleigh Tyerman, who finished 1-2-3 in this event at last month’s ACC Championships, are all competing.

Men’s 10000m • Saturday (9:20 p.m.)
The top nine finishers in this event at this year’s ACC Championships are in the field, including Cavaliers Thomas Porter (second) and Drew Paisley (seventh). ACC Champion Breandan O’Neill of Florida State has the fifth best time in the nation this season.
