LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Virginia senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, the NFCA announced Thursday (May 16).
This is third time Mitchell, a native of White Plains, Md., has been honored by the NFCA. She was named to the first team in 2010 and the second team in 2012.
Mitchell finished her career as UVa’s all-time leader in wins (79), strikeouts (1,101), complete games (117), innings pitched (942), appearances (161) and starts (144).
This season, she finished at 16-17 with a 2.74 ERA and 270 strikeouts in 217.0 innings pitched. The 270 strikeouts rank sixth-most in UVa single-season history, rank 16th in the nation this year and included 11 double-digit strikeouts games.
Mitchell was one of three ACC players to earn all-region first team honors., joining Kylie McGoldrick and Courtney Liddle of Virginia Tech.
