Charlottesville, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today Virginia sophomore men’s golfer Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) has been named to the All-ACC team. McCarthy earned the distinction for the second consecutive year.

McCarthy leads the Cavaliers in stroke average at 72.59 through 32 rounds this season. He led or shared the team lead in scoring in five of the team’s 11 tournaments this season. McCarthy finished first at the Northern Open at the team’s first tournament of the year. Last weekend he tied for second at the NCAA Columbus Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual competitor.

McCarthy will compete for the NCAA individual championship May 28-30 in Atlanta, Ga., at the Capital City Club.

In 2012, McCarthy was the ACC’s Freshman of the Year, in addition to picking up all-conference honors.

Voting for the All-ACC team and individual awards was conducted by the league’s coaches.
