Charlottesville, Va. – Virginia senior Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has been named a first-team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. She becomes the first player in the 10-year history of the program to earn first-team All-America honors.

This season, Altomare won the Atlantic Coast Conference individual championship and was named the ACC Women’s Golfer of the Year. She was also named to the All-ACC squad for the fourth consecutive season.

The accommodation from the WGCA marked the fourth straight year she has earned some form of All-America honor. As a freshman, she was an honorable mention selection. During her sophomore and junior seasons she was named a second-team All-American. She becomes the first Cavalier to earn All-America accolades in four consecutive seasons.

Altomare led Virginia this season with a 72.23 stroke average. She was ranked No. 8 in the final Golfweek individual standings and finished 11th in Golfstat’s rankings.

“It is fitting that Brittany capped a brilliant career at Virginia by being named a first-team All-American,” said Cavalier head coach Kim Lewellen. “She had a fantastic senior season and is very deserving of this honor and being named the ACC’s player of the year. She set a high standard for our future golfers to aim for and she proved you can achieve those types of accomplishments at Virginia.”

In addition to winning the ACC Championship, Altomare posted five top-three finishes during the season. She finished her career with 19 top-10 finishes, the most in UVa history, and also owns the school records for lowest single-season stroke average (72.23) and career stroke average (73.13).
