KAZAN, Russia—Three Cavalier swimmers, rising junior Ellen Williamson, rising sophomore Yannick Kaeser and class of 2012 graduate David Karasek, competed at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, July 10-16.
Williamson competed in one event, the women’s 200-meter backstroke, qualifying for the finals and finishing eighth overall in 2:13.28. It was Williamson’s first appearance in international competition.
Karasek swam in the finals of two relays for Switzerland, placing sixth in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay in 7:22.95 and eighth in the 4x100m free relay in 3:21.01. Karasek qualified for the semifinals in the 200-meter individual medley, placing 15th in 2:05.47. He also qualified for the semis in the 200m free in 1:49.68 (seventh overall), but did not compete in the semifinals. Karasek placed 23rd in the 100m free in 50.70 and in his final event of the meet, was part of the 4x100m medley relay that placed 12th in 3:46.01.
Kaeser qualified for the semifinals of the men’s 200-meter breaststroke, placing 15th overall in 2:15.92. Kaeser also competed in the 50m breast, winning his heat in 28.95 for 29th overall, and the 100m breast, finishing 26th overall in 1:03.40.
