Eleven Cavaliers Named Scholar All-Americans, Women's Program Honored

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Eleven members of the Virginia swimming and diving programs have been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as Scholar All-Americans, the association announced Thursday (July 18). In addition, the Cavalier women’s team has been recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.
Rising juniors Shaun Casey (Port Orange, Fla.), Alison Haulsee (Glen Allen, Va.), Kelly Offutt (Reisterstown, Md.) and Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) of the women’s team and rising junior David Ingraham (Spartanburg, S.C.) of the men’s squad were named to the Scholar All-America Team, while rising senior Emily Lloyd (Severna Park, Md.) and Carlin Tettelbach (Fairfax Station, Va.) and rising sophomore Rachel Moore (Andover, Mass.) of the women’s program and rising seniors Jonathan Buerger (Wexford, Pa.) and Nathan Hart (Asheville, N.C.) and rising sophomore Carl Buergler (Arlington, Va.) were recognized as Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans.
All 11 Cavaliers competed at either the NCAA Championships or Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, where the Virginia squads both won their sixth consecutive ACC crowns.
Casey, Haulsee, Ingraham, Offutt and Williamson all competed in individual events at the 2013 NCAA Championships, while Buerger and Lloyd swam on Cavalier relays. Buerger, Haulsee, Lloyd and Williamson all earned honorable mention All-America status.
Ingraham (men’s 800 free relay), Offutt (500 free, 1,650 free), Williamson (200 IM, 800 free relay) all won ACC titles.
Buergler and Tettelbach were part of the diving crew that had a UVa record nine competitors at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
The Scholar All-American Team award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester or cumulative average and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.
The Honorable Mention Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester or cumulative average and have achieved a NCAA “B” time standard but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets.
