CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team faces off with Radford at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a friendly at Klöckner Stadium. Admission to the exhibition match is free, and parking is available in the University Hall lot.

Ranked No. 25 nationally in the preseason NSCAA poll, the Cavaliers opened their fall training last Wednesday. UVa also will play an exhibition at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rutgers. The Cavaliers’ 2013 regular-season opener is Friday, Aug. 30, when they entertain 10th-ranked Louisville as part of a doubleheader with the UVa women’s team at Klöckner Stadium.

Virginia posted a 10-7-4 record, including a 3-4-1 mark in the ACC, in 2012. Despite featuring a starting lineup which typically consisted of six freshmen and 10 underclassmen, the Cavaliers reached the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling 3-1 at No. 13-seeded New Mexico. UVa returns a wealth of experience, with 18 letterwinners and 10 starters returning from its 2012 side.

2013 ACC All-Freshman Team honorees Darius Madison (Philadelphia, Pa.), Marcus Salandy-Defour (Kensington, Md.) and Todd Wharton (Glen Allen, Va.) all are back in the mix for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers also are bringing in a heralded recruiting class which has been tabbed as high as No. 2 nationally. The recruiting class features 11 freshmen and is highlighted by a pair of top-five recruits, Jordan Allen (Rochester, N.Y.) and Nicko Corriveau (Potomac, Md.).

Sophomore transfer Jeff Gal (Bartlett, Ill.) figures to get the starting nod in goal for the Cavaliers; he transferred to Virginia this season from Creighton, where he went 13-1-1 with seven shutouts last year while leading the Blue Jays to the NCAA College Cup.

UVa once again will play one of the nation’s toughest schedules, featuring 17 regular-season matches including seven ranked foes: Maryland (2), North Carolina (4), Notre Dame (7), Louisville (10), Wake Forest (17), Syracuse (20) and VCU (24).
