Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia athletics department has introduced a new, free mobile experience for Cavalier fans. The official mobile application of Virginia Athletics offers iPhone/iPad and Android owners an interface that provides mobile access to essential information from VirginiaSports.com, the official website of Virginia Athletics. Content on the app includes up-to-the-minute news, scores, live video and audio event coverage, stats, schedules, rosters and photo galleries.

The new mobile application is free to download from the App Store or Android Market. Live audio and video can be accessed through the app for a subscription fee.

“This new app makes it easier for Cavalier fans to stay connected with their favorite Virginia sports teams no matter where they go,” said Todd Goodale, associate athletics director for external affairs. “The ability to follow events through mobile GameTracker, live audio, and live video is a great feature in the app. It’s important to note, we will continue to support the athletics portion of the University’s Good Old app as well.”

The free mobile application includes access to the following features:

• Live game scoring with full GameTracker sport coverage
• Sport-specific Twitter feeds
• Live audio and video coverage
• Schedules and results
• Rosters
• Photo galleries
• Push notification system
• Sharing via email, text, Twitter and Facebook

A subscription plan is available that includes coverage of live audio and video for select sports. The live media upgrade costs $4.99 per month or $19.99 per year for iOS users and $9.99 per year for Android users.

Once downloaded, fans can purchase the live audio/video upgrade within the application via subscription settings and by following the purchase process. Once the upgrade is purchased, fans can immediately access audio and video broadcasts through the “Schedule” portion of the App. The audio offerings include play-by-play coverage of Virginia football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball games. The live video coverage mirrors the live video streaming schedule on VirginiaSports.com and includes field hockey, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer games and volleyball matches this fall.

The official iPhone/iPad application of Virginia Athletics is compatible with iOS devices and requires iPhone OS 4.2 or above. The Android version is compatible with any Droid device running Android 2.2 or above.

The application can be downloaded at the App Store and Android Market by searching for “University of Virginia Sports.”
