Virginia Entertains George Mason at 7 p.m. Tuesday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team returns home Tuesday to kick off a three-match homestand, facing George Mason at Klöckner Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. for the matchup between the Cavaliers (1-3-0) and Patriots (4-0-1).
Ticket Information
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4.

Parking Information
Free parking is available in the University Hall, McCue and Cage lots as well as the Emmet/Ivy Garage. Parking will not be available in the John Paul Jones Arena lots on Tuesday.
Virginia-George Mason Series
Virginia holds a 16-8-3 edge in the all-time series with George Mason which dates to 1972. The programs have not met in the regular season since 2008, a 3-2 UVa double-overtime victory in Fairfax, Va. GMU is making its first visit to Klöckner Stadium since Sept. 2, 2006.
Last Meeting: Virginia 3, George Mason 2 (2OT)
Virginia rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat George Mason, 3-2, in double overtime on Sept. 5, 2008, in Fairfax, Va. Brian Ownby scored the golden goal in the 110th minute to give UVa the victory.
George Mason got first-half goals from Lucas Pardew and Ryan Gracia to take the 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. UVa began its rally in the 53rd minute, when Chris Agorsor headed a Hunter Jumper pass into the net. UVa got the equalizer in the 77th minute, when Jimmy Simpson fired a shot from 10 yards out.
In overtime, what was a light rain throughout the match became a downpour, saturating the field and making each offensive possession precious. After more than 19 minutes of scoreless play in overtime, the contest appeared destined for a tie when Ownby found the back of the net to put an abrupt end to the match and give the Cavaliers the victory.
Last Time Out: Wake Forest 3, Virginia 2
After nearly rallying from a three-goal deficit in the final seven minutes of play, the Virginia men’s soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 15 Wake Forest Friday evening in Winston-Salem, N.C. Virginia out-shot the Demon Deacons 20-14 but was doomed by critical defensive blunders.
Eric Bird and Bryan Lima each scored for the Cavaliers, who trailed 3-0 with just under seven minutes remaining before staging a furious rally. UVa had a shot at the equalizer with 25 seconds remaining, but a short header from Jordan Allen was corralled by Wake Forest goalkeeper Alec Ferrell, and the Demon Deacons ran out the clock from there.
Bird finished with a goal and an assist to highlight the Cavaliers’ offensive output. The physical game featured 34 fouls (19 on Wake Forest, 15 on Virginia) as well as six yellow cards (three on each team).
Cavaliers Continue Tough Slate
Virginia’s first five opponents this season have a combined 20-4-1 record. Thirteen of UVa’s 17 opponents are currently ranked or receiving votes in the latest NSCAA poll. UVa’s first four opponents all are currently ranked in the latest NSCAA poll (as of Sept. 9): Louisville (16), St. John’s (12), Clemson (20) and Wake Forest (15).
UVa still has matches on the docket with North Carolina (2), Notre Dame (4), Maryland (18) and VCU (19). George Mason, Syracuse, Boston College, Providence and UNC Greensboro – all on the UVa schedule – also are receiving votes in the NSCAA poll.
Noting George Mason
Coming off a 1-0 win Friday over Seton Hall, George Mason is 4-0-1 on the season as it heads into its first road match of the year. Two seniors head George Mason’s attack. Forward Wes Sever leads the Patriots in goals this season with four, while midfielder Julio Arjeno leads the team in assists with two. Freshman goalkeeper Steffen Kraus was named A-10 Rookie of the Week a week ago after having a .875 save percentage over two games against Denver and Binghamton.
