Nashville, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked Virginia men’s golf is in sixth place after the opening 36 holes of play at the DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup. The event is being played at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville, Tenn.

Virginia posted rounds of 2-under 282 and 5-over 289 during the first day of play for a 36-hole total of 3-over 571 on the par-71 course. Texas A&M leads the 10-team field at 11-under 557 followed by Georgia at 558. The competing teams are split evenly with five teams representing the ACC and five from the SEC.

UVa junior Denny McCarthy is tied for second place after two rounds at 6-under 136. He shot back-to-back rounds of 68. He trails tournament leader Ben Crancer of Texas A&M by five strokes entering the final round of stroke play.

The Cavaliers’ Ji Soo Park is in 11th place at 141 while David Pastore and Jimmy Stanger are tied for 32nd at 147. Nick McLaughlin is in 45th place at 156.

The final round of stroke play will take place Saturday. On Sunday the teams will face off in a match-play format pitting an SEC school against an ACC squad. The pairings will be based on the final finishes from stroke play.
