Virginia and Miami Set for Saturday Showdown on ESPNU
• Virginia and Miami will play a nationally televised game on Saturday afternoon on ESPNU. Kick-off is scheduled for noon at Sun Life Stadium.
• The Cavaliers are coming off their second bye week of the season and are looking to halt a seven-game losing streak.

Virginia vs. Miami
• This is the 11th meeting between the Coastal Division rivals and after three straight UVa wins, the series is tied 5-5.
• Miami won the first three games in the series (1996, 2004, 2005), but Virginia holds a 5-2 advantage since.
• For the first time in the series, UVa holds a three-game winning streak. UVa had a two-game winning streak from 2006 to 2007.
• Since the Hurricanes’ arrival in the Atlantic Coast Conference (2004), UVa leads the series, 5-4.

Last Time In South Beach
• UVa’s last trip to Sun Life Stadium in 2011 the Cavaliers came out on top with a 28-21 victory. The win set the table for Virginia to become the first and only program in college football history to win road games at Miami and Florida State in the same season. UVa later won in 2011 at then-No. 23 FSU, 14-13.

UVa-Miami Connections
• Miami head coach Al Golden was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at the University of Virginia from 2001-05.
• Two players on the Cavaliers’ roster hail from the state of Florida – Pablo Alvarez (Coral Gables) and Demeitre Brim (Dundee).
• Former Cavalier defensive tackle Justin Renfrow graduated from UVa in May and is using his final year of eligibility at Miami. Renfrow appeared in 22 career games at Virginia and recorded 18 tackles. Renfrow appeared in the 2012 meeting between UVa and Miami, but did not play in either the 2010 or 2011 contest.
• Miami assistant head coach Mark D’Onofrio was an assistant coach at Virginia from 2004-05.
• Miami QB Stephen Morris made his collegiate debut at Scott Stadium during the 2010 meeting. Morris, who at the time didn’t appear on the Hurricanes depth chart at all during the season (eight games), was the third QB into the game after an injury to Jacory Harris in the first quarter and two INTs by backup Spencer Whipple.

UVa’s Place in Miami & Orange Bowl History
• Six years ago on Nov. 10, Virginia marched into the Orange Bowl and topped Miami 48-0. It was the Hurricanes’ final game at the famed Orange Bowl after a 70-year stay.
• The Nov. 10, 2007 game was Miami’s biggest shutout loss in the venue’s history.
• Former Cavalier and current Minnesota Viking Chris Cook had a 44-yard fumble return for a score with 2:26 left in the game, putting Virginia’s effort into the Miami history book.
• The win topped a 44-0 beating Notre Dame put on the Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl in 1973.
Mikell Simpson had a pair of one-yard touchdown runs and quarterback Jameel Sewell scored twice, while completing 20-of-25 passes for 288 yards.

More on the UVa-Miami Series
• The first match-up occurred in the 1996 Carquest Bowl at then-Joe Robbie Stadium, a 31-21 victory by Miami.
• That game was the final collegiate action for several notable Cavaliers, including Tiki and Ronde Barber, James Farrior, Jon Harris and Jamie Sharper.
• In addition to this Cavalier quintet, the game featured a large number of future pros.
• Of the 44 starters in the game, 20 were drafted by NFL teams (11 UVa, 9 Miami). The group of NFL draftees included nine first-round picks. Twenty-one Cavaliers and 22 Hurricanes went on to play in the NFL.

London and O’Brien Connections with Al Golden
• UVa head coach Mike London and Miami head coach Al Golden were assistant coaches together at UVa from 2001-04. Golden was a GA at UVa from 1994-96 and when current UVa associate head coach for offense Tom O’Brien left UVa in 1997 for the head coaching job at Boston College, Golden followed him as the Eagles’ linebacker coach.
• London also joined Golden and O’Brien at Boston College as the defensive line coach.

Last Meeting: 2012 (UVa 41 – Miami 40)
Michael Rocco tossed a 10-yard pass to Jake McGee in the back of the end zone with six seconds left to beat Miami, 41-40 in last year’s meeting at Scott Stadium. The touchdown capped a 10-point, fourth quarter deficit.
• The loss for Miami is its only one under current head coach Al Golden when scoring at least 40 points.
• Rocco was 29-of-37 for 300 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
• McGee had four catches for 26 yards including the game-winning score. McGee’s current consecutive game streak with at least one pass began in the 2012 Miami game.
• WR Dominique Terrell had a career day in the 2012 meeting with nine catches for 127 yards.
Last Trip to Miami: 2011 (UVa 28 – Miami 21)
• Virginia jumped out to a 17-0 lead on ESPN’s Thursday Night Football and held on for the 28-21 victory at Sun Life Stadium.
Darius Jennings scored his first career touchdown on a 53-yard bubble screen, starting things in the first quarter. After a Robert Randolph 22-yard field goal, Tim Smith found the end zone on a halfback option pass from former high school teammate Perry Jones.
• Miami clawed back and tried to tie the game on the final play of regulation. Stephen Morris came in on the drive after Jacory Harris was injured. On the final play Morris was flushed out of the pocket by Thompson Brown and settled short for Eduardo Clements, who was tackled at the 10-yard line by Rodney McLeod and Steve Greer to end the game.

Virginia at Sun Life Stadium
• Virginia will be playing its sixth all-time contest in Sun Life Stadium, which is on its fourth name during that span. UVa is 1-4 all-time in the venue.
• Virginia had losses in the 1994 Carquest Bowl (31-13 to Boston College) and 1996 Carquest Bowl (31-21 to Miami) when it was Joe Robbie Stadium.
• In the 1999 Micropnc.com Bowl, Virginia lost to Illinois, 63-21, in Pro Player Stadium.
• In its 2009 match-up at Miami, in Land Shark Stadium, Virginia dropped a 52-19 contest.
• UVa won the 2011 meeting in the venue’s second season as Sun Life Stadium, 28-21.

Virginia at NFL Stadiums
• UVa is 10-15 all-time in stadiums that at the time of the contest were active NFL stadiums.
• Eight of the 14 NFL stadiums UVa has played in are still active today.
• Since UVa’s 28-21 win at Miami in 2011, the Cavaliers have lost their last two games in NFL including this year at Pitt (Heinz Field) and in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Bowl (Georgia Dome).
