CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (2-1) plays at Liberty (0-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Vines Center in Lynchburg, Va.
The game will be broadcast live on the Liberty Flames Sports Network and streamed online on ESPN3.
Virginia comes into the game looking to extend its two-game win streak. The Cavaliers notched a 95-82 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday (Nov. 16), the first time UVa had scored 95 points in a game since a 110-63 win over USC Upstate in 2009. Five Cavalier players scored in double figures for the first time since Dec. 18, 2011, a 92-43 win over Radford.
The Cavaliers scored 62 points in the second half against LA Tech. Last season, Virginia finished the campaign averaging 61.9 points per game.
Junior center Sarah Imovbioh (Abuja, Nigeria) has posted double-doubles in each of the last two games. Imovbioh nearly had a double-double in each contest with points and offensive rebounds alone, pulling in nine O-boards against High Point and eight against LA Tech. She currently leads the ACC, averaging 6.3 offensive rebounds per game. Imovioh is fourth overall in rebounding in the conference, averaging 10.3 per contest.
Sophomore guard Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.) currently ranks in the top-10 in the ACC in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game. Randolph came off the bench against LA Tech, scoring 14 points in 23 minutes.
Redshirt freshman guard Raeshaun Gaffney (Fairfield, Ohio) is tied for third on the team in scoring. Gaffney, coming off the bench in her delayed rookie campaign, is averaging 8.0 points in 15.3 minutes per game.
Junior forward Sarah Beth Barnette (Lexington, Ky.) had a career-high seven rebounds in 13 minutes against High Point, and followed that performance with another seven-rebound game against LA Tech.
Senior guard Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) went 4-of-7 from three-point range and 5-of-9 overall from the field against the Lady Techsters, scoring 16 points with five assists and four steals.
Freshman guard Breyana Mason (Woodbridge, Va.) had her first double-digit scoring effort of her career with 13 points against LA Tech. She was 2-of-3 from three-point range and 4-of-8 overall
Tuesday’s game will mark the first meeting between Liberty and Virginia since the Cavaliers posted a 64-38 home win over the Lady Flames on Dec. 7, 2011. Virginia is 8-2 all-time against Liberty with head coach Joanne Boyle owning a 4-0 record against the Flames, including three wins while leading Richmond. This is just the second time that Virginia has played in the Vines Center. The Cavaliers’ last trip on Nov. 26, 2002, ended with the Flames shocking No. 23 UVa in overtime, 77-69.
Virginia will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 24 when they travel to Morgantown, W.V., to face West Virginia (3-1) at 4 p.m.
