CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete Saturday (Nov. 23) at the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. It marks the sixth time that both the Cavalier men and women have competed at the NCAA championship meet in the same year.

The men’s 10K race is scheduled for noon and will be followed by the women’s 6K race at 1:15 p.m. Live results will be available and linked on VirginiaSports.com.

The Virginia women enter the meet ranked No. 10 nationally after winning the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship last week at Panorama Farms. The Cavaliers had six all-region honorees at the meet, led by senior Barbara Strehler (Richmond, Va.), who finished third.

The Cavalier women claimed NCAA Championships in 1981 and 1982. They are looking for their first top-10 finish at the meet since a ninth-place performance in 2001.

The No. 22 Virginia men make their second straight NCAA Championship appearance after finishing second at the NCAA Southeast Regional last week to automatically qualify. Sophomore Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.) finished fifth to lead the Cavaliers, who finished behind Eastern Kentucky and edged NC State for the second automatic qualifying place.

The Cavalier men are making their 12th appearance at the NCAA Championships. Virginia is coming off a 14th-place finish at the meet last year. The Cavaliers’ best finish at the NCAA Championships was a fifth-place performance in 1984.
